The plans approved by the county in 2021 mostly include tunnels and stations along Las Vegas Boulevard (encompassing both the Strip and Downtown). Driverless vehicles are not permitted for use. People are driven through the tunnels in Tesla vehicles that fit three passengers, though Boring claims it will eventually use vehicles capable of seating up to 12 passengers. Tunnel expansion to Westgate and Encore is currently underway. It includes five passenger pickup stations - four at different wings of the convention center and one at Resorts World. The Elon Musk-founded company’s Vegas Loop is currently just 2.2 miles of tunnels, mostly under the Las Vegas Convention Center, and mostly funded by a $52.2 million contract with the publicly funded Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority.
“The more opportunities we have on this map, the more opportunities for success with this system,” Boring attorney Stephanie Allen told the commissioners. That is in addition to the nearly 30 miles in proposed tunnels already approved by the county in 2021 but not yet developed. The Boring Company on Wednesday received approval from the Clark County Commission to extend its Vegas Loop tunnel system by 25 miles, the Nevada Current reported. It’s still more of a tunnel vision than anything.
